What was your initial reason or motivation for pursuing an MBA?

I have a non-traditional background. After graduating from the Carlson School’s undergrad program in 2015, I played professional basketball overseas in about seven different countries over four years. When I retired, I reflected on my post-athletic career aspirations. I knew I wanted to better myself, and adopting a learning mindset was crucial. With this in mind, I decided to return to school, recognizing that it would position me well for a successful professional business career.

Why did you choose the Carlson School?

I cherished my time as an undergraduate student. The dean, professors, and everyone I encountered were incredibly supportive during my tenure as a student-athlete. Moreover, I have a deep affection for Minneapolis. It was here that I met my fiancé, which added significant weight to my decision. However, beyond personal connections, my love for the school and its offerings ultimately solidified my positive experience.

How has your Carlson School experience helped you change your career path and get to where you are?

My Carlson experience laid the essential foundational blocks for my career pivot. The top-tier academics, interview resources, and experiential learning within the Carlson Funds Enterprise and Ventures Enterprises were pivotal in shaping my journey. They paved the way for my internship with the Global Capital team at General Mills. The Full-Time MBA program equipped me with everything I needed, enabling me to succeed during that internship which eventually led to a full-time offer, even without prior corporate experience.

What would you tell prospective students considering the Carlson School?

My global travels and immersion in diverse cultures have profoundly shaped my perspective. Witnessing the world through different lenses has not only enhanced my business acumen but also made me a more compassionate individual. The Carlson School of Management excels in creating a unique, inclusive environment that fosters meaningful conversations. These conversations, fueled by diverse viewpoints, propel our learning forward. Moreover, the faculty’s unwavering support is remarkable. Every teacher emphasizes their availability for questions or meetings, reinforcing the school’s commitment to student success.
