Tuition for the Master of Human Resources & Industrial Relations is $12,370 per semester for Minnesota and reciprocity residents (North Dakota, Wisconsin and Manitoba), and $20,810 per semester for non-resident and international students.

Total tuition for all three semesters is $37,110 for Minnesota residents and reciprocity students, or $62,430 for non-resident and international students.

Tuition Deposit

A $1,000 enrollment deposit is required to confirm your place in the program.

Books, Course Materials, Supplies and Equipment

The estimated annual cost for books, course materials, supplies and equipment is approximately $1,000 per year, or $500 per semester. Actual expenses will vary depending on the courses taken.

Global Experience

Students have the option to participate in an international experience to build the business skills needed to succeed in a global economy. You can customize your experience by choosing the destination, format, and duration that best fit your goals. Global Experience fees can vary. Costs can be found in the Program Finder feature when you select a trip.

Financial Aid

Graduate fellowships can be awarded to highly-qualified full-time students and are generally given for one academic year. There is no separate application for the fellowships but all applicants are encouraged to submit their applications by the priority deadline to have the best opportunity for fellowship review. There are also employment positions available within the program that students can apply for as those openings come up in late summer. The positions are usually ten hours per week during the academic year and position announcements are sent to current and incoming students as applicable. In addition, loans and work-study opportunities may be available for U.S. students and permanent residents.

Yes. Minnesota Carlson and the University of Minnesota offer merit-based scholarships to both domestic and international MHRIR students. You don't need a separate application, because we automatically consider every applicant for all the scholarships they're eligible for. Explore MHRIR scholarships.

Does the program offer teaching or research assistantships?

If your schedule allows, you can apply for graduate assistant positions while in the MHRIR program. Past positions have involved about 10 hours of work per week supporting faculty research or our library, and applications typically open in August before classes start. We don't offer full-ride scholarships. You can browse open graduate assistant roles on the University of Minnesota's jobs site.

Can my employer sponsor me or is outside funding available?
