The Department of Work and Organizations creates cutting-edge research and offers engaging educational programming focused on the workplace, managing and leading people and organizations, and the behavior of individuals and groups.
Academic Programs
The department offers programs at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral level, including the internationally recognized Master of Human Resources and Industrial Relations program.
Undergraduate Major and Minor
The HRIR undergraduate curriculum provides a deep, broad business education, and builds upon that foundation with courses in the dynamic field of human resources and industrial relations.
Master of Human Resources and Industrial Relations
Recognized as one of the top programs of its kind in the country, the master's program offers students an opportunity to study with a world-class faculty committed to providing a dynamic learning experience.
Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies
In 1945, the Industrial Relations Center was founded to study the influence these events had on employment behavior and to educate labor and management on collective bargaining agreements. Today, the name may have changed, but the Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies (CHRLS) remains an international leader in HRIR education and research.
PhD Program
In addition to a rigorous curriculum, students will enjoy rich opportunities for research collaboration with world-renowned faculty and the ability to develop a teaching portfolio in support of rewarding academic careers in organizational behavior, human resource management, organizational economics, labor relations, and related areas.
Online HR Management Specialization
A short but robust introduction to the key principles, policies, and practices of human resource management is offered through a fully-online HRM specialization of four massive open online courses (MOOCs) taught by faculty from the Department of Work and Organizations. Courses can be taken individually or packaged together as a specialization.
