Explore careers and build your skills
Our services and resources are designed to help you explore and map your undergraduate journey toward a future profession. From required courses to career coaching sessions, you'll acquire and practice the skills you need to prepare for and pursue your career goals.
Coursework
During your first year at Carlson, you’ll take 2 courses to develop a toolkit to make the most of your college experience and prepare for your job search.
Using the design thinking process, the Design Your Life course equips you with the tools to draft a college experience that best aligns with who you are and what you hope to get out of undergrad. You’ll explore and identify your values and strengths, learn about education and career opportunities, and develop professional and personal leadership skills.
The Design Your Career course prepares you with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the job search process. You’ll explore majors and careers, and build your foundation in resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, and networking. You’ll also learn about different aspects of the job search process from a variety of professionals, including organizational recruiters, alumni, and other business professionals.
Individual career coaching
You’ll have access to personalized guidance on any aspect of your Carlson experience and career development process. Whether you’re exploring majors and careers or have already identified your goal, there’s a staff career coach who can assist you.
Our career coaches offer a wide range of expertise that covers specific business functions, such as marketing and management information systems, to types of organizations you can work for and career pathways including public and nonprofit management, international business, and consulting.
Choose to meet with them in-person or virtually any time of the year during your Carlson experience.
Peer career coaching
Peer Career Coaches are available during the academic year to help you with:
- Resume or cover letter review
- Interview prep and practice
- Consulting case interview practice
In addition, they can share insights and advice regarding finding, securing, and completing internships. Who knows, you just might hear about your dream internship opportunity through these peer relationships.
Whatever your major and/or minor, there’s a peer career coach pursuing the same discipline. There are also peer career coaches dedicated to helping to navigate your study abroad experience.
