Incoming Exchange Students: Fees & Expenses

The exchange program covers the cost of tuition and most student fees. Students are responsible for any additional costs.

Incoming exchange students will need to submit documents as proof of financial means in order to be issued an I-20 visa document. Students will submit these documents electronically (through an online portal) after they are admitted to the University of Minnesota. Instructions will be provided to students directly.

 

Student Health Benefit Plan

All non-US passport holders are required to purchase the Student Health Benefit Plan for each semester that they are studying at Minnesota Carlson. Students are automatically enrolled in the plan. For plan details, please refer to the following resources:

 

Charges on UMN Student Account

After you arrive at Minnesota Carlson, your University of Minnesota student account will be charged several different fees. Some of the fees will be paid by Carlson and exchange students are responsible for others.  We will discuss these fees, payment procedures, and deadlines in detail during the Welcome Program. You do not need to make any payments to your UMN student account until after the Welcome Program.

 

Minnesota Carlson Pays:

Tuition (12-20 credits), Carlson Tuition Surcharge, Student Service Fees, Carlson Collegiate Fee, Transportation Fee, Safety Fee, and International Student Engagement Fee.

 

Exchange Students Pay:

Housing/meals, International Student Support Fee, Academic Record Fee, Student Health Benefit Plan, and any additional charges made to student account such as course fees.
