Incoming Exchange Students: Application Instructions
Application instructions and deadlines:
Students must be nominated by their home institution before applying. See a list of our partner institutions here. Nominated students will be emailed the application link directly. Submitting your application by the deadline will ensure that you receive your documents from the University of Minnesota in time to apply for a student visa. Applications are reviewed after the deadline. There is no application fee.
- Fall and Academic Year application deadline: April 1
- Spring application deadline: September 1
Submitting a late application will delay your acceptance to the program and important visa documents. If you cannot submit your application materials by the deadline, email [email protected] with an expected delivery date.
As part of the application process, students must submit the following documents:
- Passport information, including a copy of your passport information page. Your passport must be valid at all times while you are in the U.S., and be valid at least six months past the end of your exchange program. If your passport will expire within six months of the end of your program, you will need to renew it in your home country before traveling to the U.S.
- Official transcript from your current institution (translated to English, if applicable). Be sure to include the most recent transcript possible, as we will use this transcript to check for pre-requisites when registering for courses.
- Copy of your English language proficiency exam scores (if not a native English-speaker). Acceptable exams include:
