About

Matthew Anderson, JD is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. He has executive leadership experience in government and nonprofit organizations, as well as legal experience in litigation and in-house counsel roles. Anderson served as the Assistant Commissioner for Health Care & Medicaid Director for the Minnesota Department of Human Services, where he led an administration of approximately 700 employees and more than $8 billion of spending to provide Medicaid and MinnesotaCare coverage for low-income and vulnerable residents.  

Anderson has also held executive roles at the Minnesota Hospital Association with a focus on providing subject matter expertise and leadership in the areas of healthcare policy and reform, strategy, governance, and regulatory affairs for 142 hospitals and health systems across the state. In addition, he has engaged in healthcare consulting as the Intellectual Capital Leader and Principal in Mercer's Government Human Services Sector. 

Before transitioning his career to healthcare, he served as an attorney for the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, Hennepin County Attorney's Office, and Minnesota State Colleges & Universities. Anderson obtained his JD from the University of Minnesota Law School and his BA in Government/Philosophy from Saint John's University.
