Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship Professor Alfred Marcus is being honored for his decades-long commitment to researching the intersection of environment and business.

At the 82nd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, Marcus received the prestigious 2022 Distinguished Scholar Award from the Organizations and the Natural Environment (ONE) division. Through research, ONE seeks to guide businesses and organizations toward sustainable actions amid pressing environmental challenges, like climate change.

In his remarks at the awards ceremony, Marcus reflected on his collaborations with students and colleagues that have led to strides in the field and urged for their continued efforts.

“We are at the beginning of forging a path in which serious research is being done on the grand challenges the planet faces,” said Marcus, the Edson Spencer Endowed Chair in Strategy and Technological Leadership. “Don’t stop now. Let us hope that our scholarly efforts have an impact.”

In addition to his many published academic articles, Marcus is the author or editor of more than 20 books including Demography and the Global Business Environment and Innovations in Sustainability: Fuel and Food, which won the Academy of Management ONE Outstanding Book Award in 2016.

Marcus has been a professor at the Carlson School of Management since 1984 and also holds a faculty position in the Technological Leadership Institute (TLI) in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota and is an adjunct faculty at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology.
