Eric Weber, ’18 MSBA

Senior Data Scientist, LinkedIn

What are you reading?

I’m reading everything I can get my hands on about artificial intelligence and algorithms. These topics are shaping the world around us and how we make decisions. Understanding them is critical not only for my work, but for being a citizen.

What is your favorite website?

LinkedIn, specifically the LinkedIn Learning platform. Since I started writing on the platform, I’ve had incredible interactions and made posts that generate comments from industry leaders.

What is your dream job?

I think a dream job depends on where you are in your career. Right now, I’m in my dream job. I love going to work every day. One day I’d like to take on an executive data science and analytics role in a similar company. No matter what, I am certain my dream job will always be data focused.

What are you reading?

I am usually reading one non-fiction and one fiction. The non-fiction is The Undoing Project by Michael Lewis. It is about the story of two psychologists—Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky—and their groundbreaking research on judgment and decision making. The fiction book is Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. It delves into the complexities of relationships and acknowledges that each of us has imperfections and human frailties we must face.

What is your favorite website?

A website/daily newsletter called NextDraft, which rounds up the most interesting stories of the day. It’s a carefully curated mix of news, culture, science, etc., and there is always something fascinating to read.

What is your dream job?

I’d love to be a music supervisor—the person who selects songs to create a signature sound for a movie or TV show. I’ve always marveled at the impact of a great soundtrack and feel there is nothing like music to seize us, to lift us, or to touch our soul.

Raffy Maristela, ’17 BSB

Business Analyst, McKinsey & Company

What are you reading?

The Autograph Man by Zadie Smith. Smith is one of my close friend’s favorite authors, so I thought I’d give one of her pieces a shot. The story follows a man whose passion is collecting and selling autographs of famous individuals.

What is your favorite website?

My favorite website is probably Amazon. I spend an unhealthy amount of time looking at all kinds of stuff that I definitely do not need. The predictive nature of the site also keeps me going down rabbit holes of products that I end up putting on my wish lists or buying on the spot.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would be to help produce/market/manage a late night talk show. Late night show hosts have the opportunity to meet the most interesting and hilarious individuals and basically get paid to have engaging conversations. To be part of the whole production would be an incredible way to experience the interesting sides of the job without the pressure of entertaining millions of viewers every night.
