As the former director of MN Cup, the nation’s largest statewide startup competition, Melissa Kjolsing was instrumental in helping businesses grow from small ideas to ones with big aspirations. Since leaving MN Cup in 2017, Kjolsing has worked for several small businesses, including as the CEO and co-founder of Recovree (a MN Cup division winner) and now as the chief growth officer at Reema Health.
Musician and producer Phil Thompson, ’07 BSB, joined the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies (GTCYS) and the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit Minneapolis on a tribute video celebrating the GTCYS’s 50th anniversary. He shared how his degree helped him blend his musical and business ambitions, how entrepreneurship and entertainment combine, and how important it is for him to uplift communities with music.
Recent work from the Carlson School’s Marketing & Communications Department earned national recognition at the 37th Annual Educational Advertising Awards. In all, the school took home one gold, five silver, and one merit award for print and digital publications.
Three new fellows are joining the John DePodesta Leadership Fellowship program. The program provides graduate students in business, public policy, sociology, or education the opportunity to co-design or launch a new venture in partnership with existing educational organizations that seek to improve the quality of postsecondary education.
Through a recent experiential learning project, students in the Master of Marketing program helped LoveMplsParks with a variety of marketing initiatives: research, identification, and segmentation of target markets, creation of personas and journey maps, analysis of apparel prices, and creation of a new digital media strategy.
