Shaker Zahra Named AOM Fellow

Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) Professor Shaker Zahra has been elected a member the Fellows Group of the Academy of Management (AOM). The Fellows Group honors AOM members who have made significant contributions to the science and practice of management. Emeritus SME Professor Andrew Van de Ven also is an AOM Fellow.

Zahra is a department chair at the Carlson School and holds the Robert E. Buuck Chair of Entrepreneurship and Professor of Strategy. He also is the academic director of the Gary S. Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship.

Zahra’s research interests are in entrepreneurial knowledge and capability development in global industries; international entrepreneurship and capability development; and the role of corporate entrepreneurship in knowledge creation, absorption, and conversion. His research covers multiple industries, including robotics, software applications, global mobile applications, videogames, pharma, and nano-technology. Besides the U.S., his research projects are underway in several countries, including China, Swaziland, Brazil, India, Morocco, Korea, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, and Spain.

He has received many grants, honors, and awards, including five honorary PhD degrees from the Stockholm School of Economics, Jonkoping International Business School (both in Sweden), Ghent University (Belgium), the University of Messina (Italy) and Universidad de Olavide de Seville (Spain).He is a 21st Century Research Fellow of the National Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers, and Fellow of the Southern Management Association, the International Family Enterprise Association (IFERA), and the Raymond Institute for Family Business.
