The partnership of Schwan’s Co. and the Carlson School is helping future business leaders fulfill their dreams.

Jade Moreno, a junior in the Undergraduate Program focusing on Finance and Public & Nonprofit Management, has ambitious aspirations for her future. She aims to leverage her knowledge and personal background to make a lasting and meaningful difference in people's lives.

However, pursuing her dreams hasn't been without challenges. Moreno, coming from a middle-class family, has faced difficulties securing scholarships, as she is solely responsible for financing her college education. This academic year, she received valuable assistance through a scholarship from Minnesota-based Schwan’s Company.

Schwan’s scholarship program, initiated in 2018, has supported 24 students thus far in continuing their education at the Carlson School. Scott Peterson, executive vice president and chief human resource officer at Schwan’s, emphasizes the company's commitment to promoting education and leadership development in the communities it serves.

In addition to the scholarship program, Schwan’s actively engages with the Carlson Brand Enterprise (CBE) program, where students act as marketing strategy consultants for partner organizations. Mike Herauf, a participant in the CBE program, worked on providing marketing direction for Schwan’s Global Food Project. This experience not only allowed him to learn from industry experts but also provided insights into Schwan’s culture and future goals. Herauf later joined Schwan’s as a senior marketing associate.

Peterson acknowledges the enduring influence of his Carlson School education, emphasizing the importance of factors beyond compensation, such as leadership and development, in shaping the employee experience. He highlights Schwan’s partnership with the Carlson School, driven by the school’s focus on business acumen and leadership development. While Moreno’s career path may not lead to Schwan’s, she appreciates the company's support in alleviating her financial burden, enabling her to concentrate on her education and future endeavors. Being a recipient of the scholarship reinforces Moreno's belief that her hard work and dedication are recognized and valued.
