Meet a Carlson Scholar

“Carlson Scholar” is a designation given to graduating students who earn a grade point average of 3.85 or higher in their coursework. These students represent the highest level of academic achievement throughout the school.

Victoria Florez Salazar, ’15 MA-HRIR

When she decided that the next step in her career development was studying for a master’s degree in HRIR, Victoria Florez Salazar looked for a school that offered an exceptional academic education and the opportunity to apply this knowledge in real business environments.

“I decided to study at the Carlson School because of its reputation as a very renowned school with one of the top HR programs in the country,” she says. “As part of the HRIR classes, I had the opportunity to attend events such as the HR case competition, the HR Tomorrow conference, and workshops and networking events with a few companies, which truly satisfied my desire to apply what I have learned in real business settings.”

The program also helped her acquire a summer internship at the U.S. operations of her company, Argos, a growing global cement and ready-mix company. As a result of that experience, she currently is in an extended internship for an additional six months, working as a compensation specialist. “The MA-HRIR program has equipped me to be more innovative and to make decisions from a global HR perspective,” she says. “This has been very helpful in my job performance and will play a remarkable part in my career development when I am back in Colombia, my home country, working for the HR department at Argos.”
