Global Discovery: Visiting Chile and Argentina

Global Discovery: Visiting Chile and Argentina

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Global Discovery, an academic experience that is part of the FT MBA program, is one of the highlights of the 2nd year. All students go abroad for two weeks to better understand business experiences around the world. This year, students could go to Chile/Argentina, China, or UAE/Oman. I was able to go on the Chile/Argentina trip, and without a doubt, spending two weeks between those countries was not enough time! Even though we were in each country for only a week, we were able to immerse ourselves into the Argentinian and Chilean cultures quickly. We truly enjoyed and appreciated everything they had to offer. Everyone that we met from both countries was extremely kind, helpful, and hospitable. The desert climate was so welcoming to our Midwestern, frozen bodies that we didn’t want to leave!

I can’t believe my first semester of my Part-Time MBA at Carlson is complete! I feel like the semester was over in the blink of an eye. While I am relieved that finals are over, I already feel that the Carlson experience has influenced my life for the better, and I am looking forward to future classes and future semesters.

The first semester of the MBA program came to an end with a big bang. The program started with a case competition and it was apt that it ended with one. It is amazing how much we had learned in just three short months – analyzing financial statements, forecasting future growth of companies, understanding strategy and recommending solutions to problems like launching a new product in a saturated market. The final case competition exemplified how an MBA enables young professionals to have a great grasp of business concepts and also a true confidence in their decision-making abilities.
