Orchi Bhattacharyya

Orchi Bhattacharyya is a fifth-year PhD candidate in Supply Chain and Operations at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on retail operations and consumer decision-making, with particular interests in local-food certification, product information, and service recovery in online grocery retail. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Production Engineering from Jadavpur University and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Before beginning her PhD, she worked as a data scientist at Ford Motor Company in Chennai, India.

Working with Prof. Rachna Shah, Orchi examines how online grocery retailers can respond when products become unavailable after customers have placed their orders. 

She also collaborates with Professors Necati Ertekin, Mehmet Gümüş, and Karen Donohue on research examining local-food certification and labeling. This work investigates how consumers interpret certifications and how retailers can communicate distinctions among locally sourced and locally produced products through product labels and in-store signage.
