Atland Ventures Hosts National Summit

Atland Ventures hosted the inaugural Student Venture Capital Summit on April 23-24. Atland is the $1M venture capital fund led by students at the University of Minnesota. Focused on investing in startups that solve problems felt by Gen Z, Atland is the first student fund in which student managers receive equity participation in the investments. Over the past two years, the fund has deployed capital into 13 amazing companies. There are currently 33 students involved from 15 different majors across the University of Minnesota, investing $25-50K into pre-seed and seed stage companies from across the country.
This virtual event was hosted alongside University of Denver’s Pioneer Venture Group, and University of North Dakota’s Dakota Venture Group, with over 100 students from 23 different funds across the country in attendance.
Designed for the growing student interest in venture capital investing, the summit consisted of speakers, workshops, panels and a pitch event for student entrepreneurs. Keynote presentations included nationally renowned VC/Angel Investors include Elaine Zelby from SignalFire, Zach Coelius from Coelius Capital, and Brett Brohl from Bread and Butter Ventures. In addition, there were workshops focusing on fundraising/development of student funds, managing turnover, deal sourcing, and due diligence. Lastly, there was be a VC panel with Jeff Stapleton from Anthos Capital and Pooja Kandikonda from 2048 Ventures speaking about recruiting into venture capital and the life of a VC associate.
