About

Jim Willenbring founded his own strategy consulting and leadership coaching practice, where he helps leaders develop winning strategies, not just for their companies but also for their own leadership mastery.

Jim’s consulting and leadership coaching expertise comes from over thirty years of experience leading teams, programs, and business areas at Medtronic and from ten years of coaching executives and leaders within medical technology, healthcare, banking, revenue management, marketing/advertising, and other industries.

Among many leadership roles at Medtronic, Jim developed expertise in leading teams to define and translate unmet business needs into winning solutions in these areas:

  • New medical devices, software, and digital health solutions by using state-of-the-art qualitative and quantitative market research, design thinking processes, advisory boards, and other innovation approaches.

  • Commercial analytics teams and data & analytics transformation. Jim is currently the president of the industry advisory board for the MS in Business Analytics program at the Carlson School of Management.
  • Strategic & portfolio planning for a $2B group of businesses, including annual strategic planning, opportunity assessment, competitive intelligence, market research, and the annual investment process for >$100M in R&D funding.

Jim is an excellent facilitator and teacher, having led 100+ advisory boards and large group meetings and events. He has also taught change management as a Master Change Manager from GE’s Change Acceleration Program and is a certified leadership development coach.

In addition to his own practice, Jim is an Executive Coach & Consultant for The Bailey Group, a leading leadership development firm in the Twin Cities. Jim holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Scientific & Technical Communication from the University of Minnesota.
