A Day in the Life...of a Burgeoning Food Entrepreneur (and Carlson Student)

7:00 am Wake Up: Force yourself out of bed and prepare vat of espresso. Start the day with some emails and finish off some reading for class
9:00 - 9:45 a.m. Bike to School
9:55 - 11:35 a.m. Brand Management- Examine campaign consistency across platforms for consumer packaged goods. Guest speaker on branding and packaging with presentation of sample work. Introduce yourself and exchange cards, cross your fingers and hope for informational interview as this company has re-branded some of the greatest companies across the globe.
11:35 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Make your way to the Master’s Lounge. Take 25 minutes to print a paper because you get carried away discussing the best Super Bowl ads this year with a classmate. This conversation proves beneficial as shortly after, you are asked to discuss this topic in a job interview.
12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Women’s Mentorship Program Board of Directors Weekly Meeting (and lunch!)- Meet with Laura and Meggie to discuss an upcoming happy hour for accepted female students. Pair accepted women with current Carlson students. Brainstorm creative ideas to introduce the WMP Board to program participants. Force co-chairs to do headstands with you as part of a “branding opportunity”.
1:00 - 1:45 p.m. Finish up a few more emails. Interview undergrad student athlete about her purchasing/eating habits before/during/after training and competition for Start-Up class project (launching my own athlete nutrition company).
1:45 - 3:25 p.m. Managerial Accounting…debits, credits and activity based costing! Hip Hip Hurray!
4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Attend event for burgeoning female entrepreneurs sponsored by Carlson’s Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship and the Minnesota Cup (a competition for MN entrepreneurs). Meet with marketing executive, lawyer, financial advisor and accountant to discuss your start-up idea. Take copious notes, collect a plethora of business cards, and chat about other interesting business ideas.
6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Sneak in a quick workout with teammates from your local bike team. End a few minutes early to help a teammate with her resume and cover letter (thanks to the Graduate Business Career Center you are now pretty much an expert).
7:30 - 8:00 p.m. Bike home.
8:00 - 10:00 p.m. Eat dinner and begin case write-up for Managerial and Organizational Behavior. Discuss methods for successfully motivating teams with core teammate Ben over GChat. Think back to old job and wish you knew then what you know now.
10:00 - 11:30 p.m. Test out a few recipe ideas for your product. Package up results for friends to try tomorrow.
12:00 a.m. Lights out! Tomorrow is another big day!
