The Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies
Most of what happens outside your MHRIR classes runs through CHRLS. The Center connects students to HR professionals through conferences, mentorship, and its alumni association, so the network you build here extends well past graduation.
Student Clubs & Organizations
Meet your classmates, get involved in your community, and develop your skills by joining a student organization. MHRIR students have a program organization of their own, plus access to graduate organizations across Minnesota Carlson.
- The Graduate Society of Human Resources Leaders (GSHRL) coordinates networking, programming, and events for MHRIR students throughout the school year. Any student in the program is welcome to join.
- Graduate Volunteer Consultants pairs MBA and MHRIR students to provide free business consulting to Twin Cities nonprofits.
Events & Programming
The Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies runs programming for MHRIR students throughout the year.
- HR Tomorrow Conference is a full-day, in-person conference that brings together more than 300 practitioners and academics to exchange insights and explore best practices in human resources and talent development.
- Through mentor-mentee matching, students are paired with mentors based on shared interests, career goals, and areas of expertise.
- Case Competitions put MHRIR students in teams to solve real HR challenges and present their recommendations to judges.
Each event is a chance to network.
There were many valuable experiences, but the most memorable was the MHRIR internal case competition...The experience taught me how to work through complex business problems and think quickly when unexpected curveballs arise along the way. My team won the competition, and I have applied those skills in my current job, which requires me to utilize my consulting abilities to solve the organization’s daily problems.
