A program like Carlson’s offered the perfect opportunity to merge my creative media background with business-focused marketing education, preparing me for success in the field.
How did being part of Minnesota Carlson’s broader business ecosystem—spanning the Twin Cities community, local industries, and global partners—shape your experience in the Master of Marketing program?
Being part of Carlson’s broader business ecosystem was the defining part of my Master of Marketing experience. The networking opportunities in Minneapolis opened doors to meaningful connections across local industries. Joining groups such as the American Marketing Association (AMA) gave me valuable networking, volunteer, and leadership experience beyond the classroom. The strength of Carlson’s alumni network also proved invaluable. Relationships I built with alumni offered mentorship and career guidance and ultimately helped me secure a referral that led to my current role. It truly felt like being part of a community invested in each other’s success.
How has your Carlson experience helped you change your career path and get to where you are?
My experience at Carlson helped me see the full range of career paths in marketing and gave me the clarity to pivot my career with purpose. Through coursework, faculty mentorship, and industry exposure, I learned how to connect my background in media with the diverse, fast-growing opportunities in marketing. The Master of Marketing program showed me how my creative and analytical strengths could intersect —whether in brand strategy, digital marketing, or communications —and equipped me with the tools and confidence to pursue a career that bridges both worlds.
What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into Carlson’s Master of Marketing program?
My biggest advice is to tell a clear, authentic story, one that connects where you’ve been, why you’re here, and where you’re going. Carlson values purpose and direction just as much as credentials. Show how your background shapes your perspective, why the Master of Marketing program is the right next step, and how it fits into your long-term goals. Don’t try to check every box; focus on demonstrating self-awareness, curiosity, and a genuine passion for growth in marketing.
