Meet the Carlson School community and learn about the experiences and career connections we offer.
What was your initial reason or motivation for pursuing a Full-Time MBA?
After earning my Bachelor of Science in Management and Business, I always knew I would pursue my Full-Time MBA. The MBA is one of the few degrees where lived professional experience matters. That’s why, after six years in healthcare operations, I felt ready to accelerate my career in healthcare and gain a broader understanding of business. I wanted the opportunity to strengthen my leadership skills and expand my strategic planning experience. After networking and researching, I felt confident that the Master of Healthcare Administration & MBA (MHA-MBA) Dual Degree would help me connect different areas of business and prepare me for leadership roles.
Why did you choose the Carlson School?
I chose the Carlson School because of its strong emphasis on experiential learning, robust healthcare management curriculum, and the financial support I received to pursue my ambitions. The school's connections with top healthcare organizations and its supportive community were pivotal in my decision, as they offered various professional and personal growth opportunities. My most valuable experience at Carlson has been at the Medical Industry Leadership Institute (MILI). Through MILI, I engaged in hands-on projects with local and international healthcare companies, gaining practical insights and making meaningful connections. This experience has significantly enriched my understanding of healthcare and helped me grow a network of healthcare professionals through the Affiliates program.
How has your Carlson School experience helped you change your career path and get to where you are?
My experience at the Carlson School has been crucial in changing my career path. I came from healthcare operations, and I transitioned to healthcare finance post-graduation. It expanded my view of different roles and industries within healthcare, encouraging me to consider opportunities beyond my initial focus. The program improved my verbal and written communication skills, which helped me engage more effectively in conversations with professionals across sectors. This growth was essential in my transition from data analysis to a strategic finance role in healthcare, giving me the skills and confidence to tackle new challenges and responsibilities.
