What was your initial reason or motivation for pursuing a Master of Science in Business Analytics?
My initial motivation for pursuing the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program at the University of Minnesota stems from my desire to deepen my expertise in leveraging data to solve complex business problems. The Carlson School of Management’s unique blend of academic rigor, industry alignment, and career advancement opportunities makes it the ideal choice for achieving this goal.
Why did you choose the Carlson School?
I chose the Carlson School because of its forward-thinking approach to business education. I am particularly impressed by how the Carlson School continuously updates its curriculum to stay aligned with the ever-evolving business landscape. The program’s comprehensive focus on all aspects of business analytics—descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive—provides the technical expertise and strategic insights I need to design innovative and precise data solutions.
What has been your favorite part of the Twin Cities so far? What has made it such a great place to earn an MSBA?
My favorite part of the Twin Cities so far is the vibrant campus vibe. The city’s distinct four seasons make it an amazing place, offering a variety of activities and experiences throughout the year. Whether it’s enjoying the fall colors or winter snow, there’s always something cool to explore.
Living in a college town like the Twin Cities enhances the experience, providing a supportive and collaborative environment for learning. The access to resources makes the Twin Cities an ideal place to grow both academically and personally while pursuing an MSBA.
How has your Carlson School experience helped you change your career path and get to where you are?
The Carlson School’s outstanding reputation in business analytics has opened doors for me to collaborate with organizations and leverage industry connections. The program’s combination of rigorous coursework and real-world projects has equipped me with the technical expertise and strategic insights needed to address complex business challenges effectively. Moreover, the hands-on experience has been helpful in preparing me for interviews and further in the workplace.

What’s been your impression of business analytics opportunities in the Twin Cities?
The Twin Cities offers a range of exciting business analytics opportunities, particularly in sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, and retail. While the region may have a smaller market than the East or West Coast, it’s a great place for those interested in these industries to connect and collaborate with local businesses.
What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into Carlson’s MS in Business Analytics program?
It is crucial to articulate your motivation for pursuing the degree, your career goals, and how the program aligns with your aspirations. Additionally, make sure your application showcases your relevant experience, such as data analytics or programming, and highlights any projects or work that align with the skills the program emphasizes. A well-rounded application showing both technical proficiency and clear career vision is key to gaining admission.
Minnesota is known for its winters. How have you embraced the “Bold North”? Or what’s surprised you the most about the Twin Cities area?
The winters in Minnesota are certainly challenging, but I’ve come to appreciate the beauty and enjoy this unique experience. For those who love winter outdoor activities, it’s a great place to go snowboarding, skiing, or some winter festivals, making the colder months much more enjoyable.
