Who Are We At Work?

Friday, April 4, 2025

There’s always been a balance of blending the personal and professional self. The layers of our experience—what we like or dislike, where we come from, and what we aspire to—make us who we are.

Our passions and personalities come with us to work every day, and, as our perspectives change, so do our workplaces. Thus, careers can become opportunities to advocate for change, to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, or to mentor others. Within the Carlson School community, many of us have shaped ourselves through our work, finding a voice in early-career projects, mid-career job transitions, and long-term professional pursuits.

In these stories, meet a Marketing professor with a passion for storytelling; a group of alumni who transformed their love of sports into careers with the Minnesota Lynx; three students who maximized the Carlson School network to pursue their dreams; four advocates who built their careers on lifting up inclusiveness in corporate settings; and several students in experiential learning courses who harnessed their innovative ideas to make a difference.

Emerging from these layers is a more vibrant workplace, one where who we are influences what we produce, from data analytics to social change.
