Before Connecting Carlson construction began (above), the building’s core had remained largely unchanged since the facility opened nearly three decades ago. Early design plans — as seen on a 1994 cover of the school’s Minnesota Management Review magazine (right) — originally envisioned greenery throughout the school’s atrium, though that design eventually changed.

Once completed in 1998, the building provided a dedicated home for the business school and its programs, which were previously spread across five buildings on campus. Today, the revitalized and newly named Marilyn C. Nelson Hall is the latest chapter in the Carlson School of Management’s 107-year-old history.
