1st Tuesday: 5 Things About Tim Cofer
Friday, March 7, 2025
The Carlson School welcomes Tim Cofer, the CEO of Keurig Dr Pepper, as the featured guest of the 1st Tuesday Speaker Series on April 1. Secure your seats for the next 1st Tuesday at this event registration link. Before Cofer takes the stage at the McNamara Alumni Center, here are five things to know about him:
I started in the late ‘80s in marketing research at a Minneapolis field research agency doing store-level audits for big consumer companies. I wanted not just to collect the data but leverage the insights to shape brand strategy. So, I got my MBA at the Carlson School and started my 35-year career in the consumer products industry.
Beverages is a fast-paced, dynamic industry that addresses a fundamental human need for hydration, and KDP is an advantaged platform within that attractive space. With our portfolio of iconic brands, we have the opportunity to evolve and innovate to stay on top of changing consumer trends. I also love that despite KDP’s leadership scale, we remain a challenger and have the entrepreneurial spirit to drive and disrupt.
People-first orientation. An understanding that as a leader, your role is to set the strategy, be clear on expectations, develop the right team, and then (largely) get out of the way. Nothing stops the power of an aligned, capable, and empowered team.
Intellectual curiosity. Having a learning orientation. You never stop learning. You can always develop and grow. The pace of change in business, technology, and culture is faster than ever. Those who demonstrate and apply a high level of learning agility will have an advantage.
Get comfortable out of your comfort zone. Playing it safe will only get you so far. Your career path will likely not be linear. Embrace smart risks. Real value is rarely created by playing defense.
