MS in Business Analytics: Who we're looking for

The MSBA program is designed for students who can devote themselves to rigorous, full-time analytics study. The program is an excellent option for early- and mid-career professionals who want to enter the analytics field or level up their skills. All majors are welcome. We particularly encourage recent graduates in math, statistics, business, engineering, computer science, and related fields to apply.

Program Prerequisites

Qualified applicants should demonstrate a capacity for intense academic study, a propensity for mathematics and programming, and a basic understanding of business fundamentals. Recent graduates and early-career professionals are eligible for the program.

Bachelor's Degree

To be considered for admission, the MS in Business Analytics program requires a first university degree that is an equivalent to a 4-year U.S. bachelor's degree.

Completion of a Quantitative Course

Completion of at least one college-level quantitative course is required to submit the application.

Computer programming

Demonstrated competency in computer programming in at least one of the following computer programming languages: Python, C, C++, C#, VB (not VBA), Rust, Java, or JavaScript. This requirement is not required for admission to the program, but it must be completed by Orientation.

Candidates are recommended to have:

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, mathematics, engineering, business, computer science, statistics, or related field.
  • At least one college-level statistics course
  • Full-time work experience is not required. We do strongly recommend having at least some related internship(s) involving analyzing data, using technical software, and/or applying computer programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL, C, C++, C#, VB, Java, Rust, JavaScript, etc.), in addition to having related academic or extracurricular experiences.

Considerations when applying

The Master of Science in Business Analytics program offers a streamlined online application. The following materials are required to apply:

Decisions:
Only fully completed applications are holistically reviewed by the admissions committee and decisions will be released typically following the conclusion of the admission round in which it was completed. Applicants can expect to receive their decision by the "Decision Notification Date" for a given application round. While it is possible to receive an admissions decision before that date, it is not guaranteed.

Master of Science in Business Analytics Admissions FAQs

The program is distinguished by its intensive, technical curriculum, its hands-on experiential learning projects with actual clients and real data, as well as a prime location in downtown Minneapolis, giving our students access to top companies.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a 4-year U.S. degree, successful completion of at least one college-level quantitative course (e.g., calculus, statistics, etc.), a current résumé, video interview/essay, personal essays and two recommendations. Work experience is not strictly required but is highly preferred. Admitted students often have relevant internship experience, with the average admitted class possessing 3.3 years of work experience.

GMAT or GRE scores are optional for the MSBA program if a student meets a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). The average GMAT score for admitted students is 691.4, and the average total GRE score is 320.2.

A bachelor's degree equivalent to a 4-year U.S. degree is required. 3-year degrees from India are not considered equivalent without an additional year of postgraduate education. Check with the office of admissions if you're uncertain whether your degree is equivalent.
