Biography
Md. Shafiqul Islam is a first-year Ph.D. student in Accounting at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. His research interests lie at the intersection of information economics and corporate disclosure, with a particular focus on the real economic effects of mandatory and voluntary disclosures.
Prior to joining the doctoral program at UMN, Shafiq was a Fulbright Scholar at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he earned his Master of Science in Accounting and Analytics. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He graduated as the Valedictorian for the MBA program. University of Dhaka awarded him two gold medals for his outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements.
Before moving to the United States, he served as a Senior Lecturer in the Accounting Discipline at BRAC Business School, BRAC University. Prior to that, he spent over six years as a faculty member at East West University, where he taught a variety of accounting and business courses and engaged actively in scholarly research.
