Biography
M. Scott Johnson is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate accounting courses as well as professional education programs. With more than 30 years of experience spanning public accounting, corporate learning, leadership development, and higher education, Scott brings a unique blend of technical expertise and practical business insight to the classroom.
Before joining Carlson full-time in 2021, Scott served for 16 years as National Learning & Professional Development Director at RSM US LLP. In that role, he led curriculum strategy and leadership development initiatives across multiple service lines, designing and delivering training programs for professionals nationwide. He was also a facilitator for many of the firm’s management development courses and became a certified trainer in Crucial Conversations.
Earlier in his career, Scott spent 15 years with Ernst & Young LLP as an audit professional focused primarily on large healthcare organizations in the Texas Medical Center. During his time at EY, he also completed a rotation in the firm’s national office, where he worked as a subject matter expert in audit training design and delivery.
Scott earned a Master of Education degree with a specialization in Adult Education and Training from Colorado State University. In addition to his work at Carlson, he teaches continuing professional education courses through the University of Minnesota’s College of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Scott and his wife, Mary, live in Chaska, Minnesota. They have five children and nine grandchildren.
