About

Kim Nelson currently serves as an Independent Director on the boards of Colgate-Palmolive, Cummins Inc., Tate and Lyle, PLC and the Wallace Foundation. She retired from General Mills in 2018 as the Senior Vice President of External Relations after nearly 30 years. In this C-suite, global role, Kim served on the company’s executive leadership team and had accountability for the corporate brand, consumer relations, issues and crisis management, communications, sustainability, philanthropy, and government relations. 

Prior to this assignment, Kim served as the President of the company’s $1.2B Snack Food Division, where she drove differential revenue and profit growth. Kim was a founding member of the company's Black Champions Network, co-founder of its Women-In-Marketing Network, and leader of its Women’s Officer Group.

Kim received her MBA from Columbia Business School in 1988 and a BS in International Relations from Georgetown University in 1984. She lives in Minnesota where she is a passionate advocate for helping women prepare for board service.
