Congratulations to Business Week 2020 Award Winners!

Each year during Business Week, those in the Carlson School of Management community who exemplify excellence through their actions and work are recognized. These people inspire all of us to actively participate in self-development and learning. The students of the Carlson School, through nominations and voting, would like to recognize the following faculty, students, staff, and student groups:


Jacelly Cespedes

Faculty of the Year - Jacelly Cespedes, Finance Department

Jacelly Cespedes has been with Carlson since 2018 after obtaining her Ph.D from the University of Texas at Austin. She currently is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Carlson. Her interests and expertise are in corporate finance, household finance, financial intermediation, and FinTech, which drive her passion and dedication towards teaching her students. Congratulations to one of our two 2020 Faculty of the Year, Jacelly Cespedes!

 

Kendell Poch

Faculty of the Year- Kendell Poch, Accounting Department

Kendell Poch is a dedicated faculty member committed to teaching her students. In 2017, she shifted into a full-time position teaching both in the MBA and undergraduate accounting courses, as well as teaching executive education for the University of Minnesota’s Technological Leadership Institute. Kendell’s 13 years of experience in accounting and as a consultant enriches every one of her students’ learning in her classes. Congratulations to one of our two 2020 Faculty of the Year, Kendell Poch!

Frankie Massaroni

Staff of the Year - Frankie Massaroni

Frankie Massaroni is a beloved academic advisor by many students. She is currently on the Academic Advising Network board and is dedicated to helping build a strong community that students benefit from in Carlson. Her expertise is in international education, advising, and career skills, which allows her to connect with students and guide them towards pursuing their interests. Congratulations to the 2020 Staff of the Year, Frankie Massaroni!

Abby Medberry

Freshman of the Year - Abby Medberry

Abby has gotten incredibly involved in a variety of student organizations during her first year at Carlson, including 180 Degrees Consulting, Chinese Student Association, Business Week, and Net Impact. She is planning on majoring in Supply Chain, Management Information Systems, and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies during her time at Carlson. Congratulations to the 2020 Freshman of the Year, Abby Medberry!

Parth Mishra

Sophomore of the Year - Parth Mishra

Parth contributes in many meaningful ways to Carlson through involvement in Business Board, as a Carlson Ambassador, a Professor’s Assistant, in Investment and Finance Organization, and working in the Undergraduate Office and Undergraduate Business Career Center. Parth is studying Finance and Accounting and is an incoming Finance and Risk Management Intern at Cargill. Congratulations to the 2020 Sophomore of the Year, Parth Mishra!

Kayla Fixel

Junior of the Year - Kayla Fixel

Kayla participates and holds leadership positions in GLOBE, Delta Sigma Pi, Carlson Ventures Enterprise, as a Carlson Ambassador, a Teaching Assistant, and is the incoming Vice President of Business Board. Kayla also is part of the University Marching Band and the University Honors Program outside of Carlson. Kayla is majoring in Accounting and Finance and is an incoming FSO Assurance Intern at EY. Congratulations to the 2020 Junior of the Year, Kayla Fixel!

Maddie Sutton

Senior of the Year - Maddie Sutton

After her four years at Carlson, Maddie has left an impression on many students by serving as a Teaching Assistant, Carlson Crew Leader, Delta Sigma Pi, and as a spokesperson for 1 in 3 advocating for mental health awareness. Outside of Carlson, Maddie was the President of her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, and was involved with the Tom Burnett Advance Leadership Program. Maddie majored in Accounting and Human Resources with a minor in Business Law during her time at Carlson. After graduating, Maddie is starting her career at PwC as an Assurance Associate. We wish her the best in the future, and congratulations to the 2020 Senior of the Year, Maddie Sutton!

Carlson Student Group of the Year - Net Impact

Net Impact has weekly events to spread its mission of using business as a way to make social and environmental change. Net Impact has been able to offer all students at UMN, regardless of major, the opportunity to participate in one of the group’s largest events, Gophers Go To Work, a single day consulting program for local non-profits and start-ups. Gophers Go To Work has given over 600 students the opportunity to work with one of 100+ organizations every semester for the last eight years. Congratulations to the 2020 Carlson Student Group of the Year, Net Impact!
