Proceeds from auction benefit local shelter for battered women and children
The 2013 Women in Business (WIB) Charity Auction raised $11,200 for Women's Advocates, a shelter for battered women and children. More than 200 people attended the event which included a special fashion show featuring clothing donated by Kohl's (all of which were also auction items) and two musical performances, one by Rob Mahlum, a current Carlson School student, and the other by Joel Baumann.
Some of the bigger gifts that were auctioned off were two hotel stays, one to the Radisson Blu in Chicago, and the other to the new Radisson Blu at the Mall of America. Other items included a $500 Southwest Airlines gift certificate, i-Pad mini, Kindle, a Joe Mauer autographed baseball bat, Twins tickets, and a Gopher hockey autographed hockey stick.
"Once again, Women in Business was able to put together a successful event for its members and the community," said Becky Boughten, a Carlson School junior and WIB volunteer/auction coordinator. "We encourage our members to impact the community in a positive way, and I am thankful I got to be a part of the planning for such an impactful event."
