Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship Emeritus Professor Andrew Van de Ven has received the 2018 SO! WHAT award for the best paper published in Strategic Organization (SO) five years earlier.
Van de Ven’s paper, “Responding to Competing Strategic Demands: How Organizing, Belonging, and Performing Paradoxes Coevolve,” was co-written by Paula Jarzabkowski of City, University of London and Cornell University and Jane Lê of the University of Sydney. Their paper develops a model of how managers in organizations respond to paradoxical tensions. They studied how a telecommunications company coped with an organizing paradox between market and regulatory demands.
The SO! WHAT award winner is chosen by considering citations of a paper in ISI Web of Science, Google Scholar, and other indications of impact. Van de Ven’s work was noted as a significant and widely recognized contribution to the emerging literature on strategic paradox and its management.
