Alumna Barbara Mowry, ’75 MBA, has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award, the highest alumni honor bestowed by the University of Minnesota. The award is conferred on University graduates who have attained unusual distinction in their chosen fields or professions or in public service, and who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and leadership on a community, state, national, or international level.
Barbara Mowry is a member of the Carlson School Board of Overseers and an extraordinarily successful businessperson and executive leader. She has served as CEO of four companies and as a senior officer of three Fortune 500 companies. Throughout her career, Mowry has led companies through rapid growth, launched start-ups, bought and sold companies, advised CEOs on business strategy, and guided international expansion. She has a passion for entrepreneurship, “intrapreneurship,” innovation, and education. Today, she is CEO of GoreCreek Advisors, a consulting firm based in Denver, Colo.
“Barbara has been one of our most engaged board members and a personal mentor to me,” says Carlson School Dean Sri Zaheer. “She does so much for this school and is always there for us.”
Mowry currently sits on the board of directors for the Carlson School, Kauffman Foundation, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Gaiam, and Real Goods Solar. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Miami University, and an MBA from the University of Minnesota.
As a recipient of the award, Mowry’s name will be permanently inscribed on the Wall of Honors in the Carlson School atrium and the University of Minnesota Wall of Honor outside the McNamara Alumni Center on campus.
