1st Tuesday: 5 Things About nVent CEO Beth Wozniak

Minnesota Carlson welcomes Beth Wozniak, the chair and CEO of nVent, as the featured guest of the 1st Tuesday Speaker Series on June 2. Before Wozniak takes the stage at the McNamara Alumni Center, here are five things to know about her:

What was your first job?

My first job was babysitting, but then I worked in a tea room and as a lifeguard, all as a teenager. My first professional job was working as a software engineer working on aircraft simulators.

What about nVent excites you?

What excites me about nVent is the growth trajectory of the company. As the world electrifies, we offer solutions to build that infrastructure from data centers to power utilities. We started out as a $2B company and are double that size today.

What’s a trait you value in a leader?

I value leaders who develop a strong vision for their business or function and then bring people along on that journey. Leading teams to deliver results is key to business success.

What’s a lesson from school you still use today?

What I value from my engineering education is that it taught me to be a problem solver. So, whether it is a business issue or a technical issue, I am able to assess the problem and break it down in a logical way to find a solution.

What’s your top advice for students pursuing careers in business?

My top advice for students pursuing a career in business is to always be a learner and take on different roles or experiences where you are uncomfortable. That is when you will learn and grow the most.
