Minnesota Carlson welcomes Gunjan Kedia, CEO of U.S. Bancorp, as the featured guest of the 1st Tuesday Speaker Series on December 2. Secure your seats for the next 1st Tuesday at this event registration link. Before Kedia takes the stage at the McNamara Alumni Center, here are five things to know about her:
My first job was selling air fresheners door-to-door in Delhi in 1985—largely motivated by a desire to buy a new pair of jeans. I discovered I was a very good salesperson because I was not afraid to approach people, and I enjoyed making a compelling case for my product.
U.S. Bank nourishes both my mind and heart. I’m excited about our ability to improve financial outcomes and make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many individuals, families, and companies. At the same time, we’re able to compete and win in a fast-moving, global industry that stands at the precipice of enormous geopolitical and technological changes.
I admire curiosity and courage. Leaders need humility and curiosity to learn continuously. We work in a highly competitive and dynamic environment, so having the courage to make bold decisions and lead organizations through these times is admirable.
My chemistry teacher in high school was very dear to me. She used to say, "Friends and laughter make tough assignments feel easier." I think it’s very good advice even today; in addition to infusing the work with joy, I have found that it also helps teams move more quickly and with greater degrees of trust in each other.
Let yourself dream and believe in yourself. There are negative influences in society that can conspire to make you feel inadequate. Shut them out and compete only with your own yesterday.
