Carla Pavone has a BA in biology from University of Pennsylvania, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a PhD in business administration from the Carlson School of Management. She has had three careers: in magazine and software publishing (primarily at start-ups), in financial services (mainly leading internal corporate start-ups and turnarounds) and in academia. Carla spent three years at the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where she taught entrepreneurship classes and coached new ventures. She has been a member of Social Venture Partners since 2012, as chair of the investment committee and due diligence team, as a lead partner, and on the board of directors. As Associate Director of the Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship, she facilitates technology commercialization across the University of Minnesota by helping STEM students, faculty and researchers develop their insights, discoveries and inventions into high potential startups. She also teaches entrepreneurship, strategy and leadership courses, primarily at the MBA level.
