Carlson Global Institute Graduate Fellowships
The Carlson Global Institute offers Fellowships for Carlson School graduate students participating on CGI sponsored programs.
***Military Scholarships are available through the MBA Office to Full-Time MBA students who are currently serving in, or are veterans of, the U.S. military and who will be pursuing a CGI sponsored Education Abroad program. Eligibility and Award Criteria
Your essay and GPA will be reviewed to determine eligibility for a CGI Graduate Fellowship award. Preference will be given to students not receiving other study abroad scholarships through the MBA office or other financial assistance such as tuition waivers (But will not disqualify you!)
Any students who are also University of Minnesota Full-Time Staff utilizing the Regents Scholarship are NOT eligible to apply for this Fellowship.
Global Enrichment Programs
- The deadline for Graduate Fellowship applications for students participating on Global Enrichment programs closely aligns with the priority program application deadlines for these programs.
- Any Fellowship applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed.
Global Immersion Programs
- The deadline for Graduate Fellowship applications for students participating on Global Immersion will be the deadline closest to when they submit their program application. Students can only submit once per program applied to.

Fellowship Application Instructions
To be considered for a CGI Graduate Fellowship, you must upload an essay of no more than 250 words addressing the following prompt:
- Choose an issue impacting your program's country(s) or region and evaluate how this issue affects business now and its influence in the future.
Students applying to May 2023 and Summer 2023 Programs - The Fellowship application will be a google form linked within your program application checklist.
Students applying to Fall 2023 Programs and Beyond - The Fellowship application will be an optional checklist item within your program application.

Fellow Awardee Deliverables
For awardees of the CGI Fellowships, they will be in communication with a CGI team member to complete their deliverables.
Awardees will choose three prompts from a provided list to respond to while abroad or post return. Response submissions can take the form of a written blurb, photo series, and/or short video. Further instructions for these submissions will be provided to awardees, but below are a few examples of possible prompts:
- What is a day in the life of your program?
- How do you see your identity influencing your experience abroad?
- Tell a story about your single best day on the program.
- Introduce us to someone in your host community who is doing business as a force for good.
- What is your most interesting or impactful cultural takeaway?
These submissions will be featured on CGI's website and may be featured in publications. Do not submit any information or personal details that you would prefer to keep private.
