Jacque Lee Biography
What is your role at Baker Tilly?
I am a tax partner in the manufacturing and distribution team at Baker Tilly. I have been at the firm almost 7 years and roughly 65% of my client base is in the life science sector, specifically medical device.
What keeps you busy outside of work?
I am married with two children, a 10 year old daughter and a 7 year old son. Both of my children are active in sports including softball, hockey, baseball, jujitsu and dance so our lives are busy and very fun!! I enjoy live music, cooking, and yoga. We spend quite a bit of time at our family cabin in northern Minnesota during the summer. I also serve on the Board of Directors at Beacon Academy which is a charter school in Maple Grove, MN.
How did your experience in the MBT Program contribute to the position you hold today?
I think the MBT program is invaluable for individuals that want to pursue a long term career in tax. Generally undergraduate programs do not require very many tax classes in order to graduate in accounting. I believe the MBT program is the best way to obtain technical tax education and provide folks with the fundamentals of tax in addition to advanced topics.
In your experience, what are some attributes of individuals who are successful in the tax field?
I think curious individuals do well in the tax field. The answers are not always what you think they might be so you need to have a sense of curiosity to figure out the right answer- and you have to enjoy problem solving!! In the public accounting tax world, you really need to enjoy working with people (both internally and your clients) and enjoy learning about your clients’ industry and what their business challenges are so you can add value for them.
