Admissions
As part of a competitive selection process, the Carlson School carefully considers each applicant’s demonstrated and potential abilities as a student, manager, and leader. Candidates with at least two years of full-time work experience and a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or a comparable degree from an officially recognized college or university outside of the U.S. are carefully considered as part of a holistic review and selection process.
1. Attend an event, meet for a coffee chat, or schedule an admission appointment
We encourage all potential candidates to connect with us during a information session, recruitment lunch, workshop, a coffee chat, or an individual admission appointment. You can participate in actives online, in-person, and on-location formats. Staff, students, or alumni will be there to answer your questions and provide advice as you start the application process.
2. Application
The Carlson Online MBA offers a streamlined online application process. The following is required to apply:
- Personal statement essay
- GMAT, EA, or GRE score*
- Proof of English language proficiency**
- Two years of full-time work experience
- Two professional recommendations
- Video Essay
- Current resume
- Transcripts

3. Decisions
All applicants will receive an admissions decision via the application portal. All admitted candidates will receive additional information through email and the application portal.
4. Emails about your application
You will be receiving application update emails from gradappinfo@umn.edu and mbamsapp@umn.edu, please add these emails to your contact list or safe list so that they are not caught in your spam filter.

Admission Decision Release
Online MBA applicants will receive their admission decision within 10 business days of the admission committee receiving a submitted and completed application. Completed and submitted application requires that all materials have been received by the admissions committee, this includes transcripts, resumes, personal statement, recommendations, and GMAT or GRE test score reports. You will receive communication from the admission committee when your application is been received and marked as complete.
Deadlines that occur on a holiday or weekend will be extended through the next business day. Please reach out to mba@umn.edu if you have questions/concerns on your timeline.
