Harnessing Streaming Data to Monitor System Performance
A Carlson Analytics Lab Client Project
A leading global consulting firm partnered with students in the Carlson Analytics Lab to build a prototype for system monitoring and predictive maintenance, which is increasingly important in manufacturing sectors.
To create the prototype, the students used Amazon Web Services to simulate streaming data for a piece of equipment with 24 individual sensors taking multiple readings throughout a manufacturing process. Analyzing this data, the prototype applies machine learning algorithms created by the students to predict problem scenarios in real time.
This prototype will help the consulting firm to expand IoT services to clients in manufacturing and other sectors. The cloud-based platform provides scalability, low latency, and real-time processing. Use of machine learning algorithms on streaming data enables real-time prediction. And a user-friendly monitoring dashboard provides a way to inspect system status.
