Labor Education Service

We are dedicated to building the power of workers and other historically marginalized, exploited, and oppressed people across Minnesota, using media and training rooted in popular education to create more just workplaces and communities.

Our publication, Workday Minnesota, is now Workday Magazine.

We have expanded to cover labor in other states in the Midwest—a region facing intense exploitation and organizing drives that deserves far more in-depth reporting. But don’t worry, our dedication to covering the Minnesota labor movement isn’t going anywhere! Sarah Lazare, Editor, has been a journalist for 10 years, and joins us from In These Times, where she was both an editor and a reporter. Isabela Escalona, Senior Associate Editor, received a B.A. in International Studies from Macalester College in St. Paul, and Amie Stager, Associate Editor, received a B.A. in journalism from the University of Minnesota Hubbard School for Journalism and Mass Communication.

Minnesota Union Leadership Program (MULP)

The Minnesota Union Leadership Program (MULP) helps unions develop and strengthen leaders, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to address the challenges facing the labor movement.

Community Classes

We also provide a grounding in "nuts & bolts" areas important to working people, subjects such as collective bargaining, labor law and labor history, and other topics related to activism and movement organizing. These classes are mostly online and no one is turned away for lack of funds.

Customized Training

LES offers customized education to groups, union locals, councils, and districts in a broad number of subject areas, all specifically tailored to your union's and members' needs. We are available to bring the education to you or offer training in an on-campus setting. Training is also available in any number of time formats: weekdays/evenings or weekends.
