Academics

PhD students in the HRIR program work closely with faculty members on active, productive coursework that spans broad areas within the field, including industrial-organizational psychology, organizational behavior, strategic HRM, labor relations, organization theory, and organizational economics.

The program trains motivated, research-focused students to become scholars and experts within the field of HRIR. Graduates are well-prepared for faculty careers in management, HRIR, and HRM departments at top business schools and industrial and labor relations schools.

  • Research
During all years of the doctoral program, students actively participate with advisers and other faculty members in research projects with the goal of publishing the results of their completed research. Students also attend national academic conferences.
  • Teaching
PhD students gain teaching experience by leading lab sessions for MA students (especially in quantitative methods) and by teaching undergraduate courses as teaching assistants. The University's Center for Teaching and Learning Services offers other developmental opportunities as well.
