Stephen Parente Named New MBA Associate Dean

Director of the Medical Industry Leadership Institute will begin new role June 30.

Effective June 30, Stephen Parente, the Minnesota Insurance Industry Chair of Health Finance and the Director of the Medical Industry Leadership Institute, will be the new Associate Dean of MBA Programs at the Carlson School. He is replacing Professor Art Hill, who is completing a successful three-year term.

Parente, who joined the Carlson School in 1999, is a professor in the Finance Department and specializes in health economics, information technology, and health insurance. He received his BA, MS, and MPH from the University of Rochester - New York and his PhD from Johns Hopkins University. He has often testified before Congress on health insurance issues and has served as a consultant to many healthcare-related entities such as Medtronic, Pfizer, and United Health Group.

Hill, the John & Nancy Lindahl Professor and Director of the Supply Chain & Operations Board of Advisors, made many significant contributions to the MBA Programs during his tenure as Associate Dean. Under his leadership, the school launched the Military Veterans Initiative, which raised more than $8 million in scholarships and helped attract over 26 vets to the Full-Time MBA program. Hill also initiated the Teaching Excellence Project and the On-Line Project to improve teaching quality and the student experience. He built a strong MBA team with a new Assistant Dean and new Director of Admissions - and greatly improved morale. During his term, Bloomberg BusinessWeek ranked the school at number one in MBA job placement, Poets & Quants ranked the school's MBA program as number one in application growth, and Full-Time MBA enrollment increased for four consecutive years.
