March 13, 2014

Professor and Department of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) Chair Shaker Zahra is the 2014 winner of the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research for his work on the role of corporate entrepreneurship in knowledge creation, absorption, and conversion. The award, presented by the Swedish Foundation for Small Business Research, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, and the Research Institute of Industrial Economics, comes with a monetary prize of 100,000 euros.

Zahra's research spans three main areas within management and strategy: corporate entrepreneurship, international entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship. His impact, however, extends beyond these research areas and even beyond the broader fields of management and strategy. His research has been recognized by and had an impact on a broad spectrum of scholars spanning a wide range of fields and disciplines throughout the social sciences and throughout the world.

Zahra has served on more than 25 journal editorial boards and has leading roles in many organizations devoted to entrepreneurial scholarship.

The Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research is given annually to a scholar who has produced scientific work that contributes to theory-building concerning entrepreneurship and small business development, the role and importance of new firm formation, and the role of SMEs in economic development. The official award ceremony will be held in Stockholm in mid-May.
