Professor John Budd, the Industrial Relations Land Grant Chair, was named the recipient of the 2010-11 Herbert G. Heneman, Jr. Distinguished Teaching Award. "The Herbie," presented in recognition of teaching excellence, was given to Budd by the school's MA-HRIR students.

Heneman earned his BBA, MA, and PhD from the University of Minnesota where he later joined the faculty and became director of its Industrial Relations Center and chair of the Department of Industrial Relations from 1961 to 1973. His focus on the development of industrial relations as an academic discipline helped make the industrial relations center (now the Center for Human Resources & Labor Studies) one of the most influential in the world. Heneman retired from the University as professor emeritus in 1980.
