Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Associate Professor of Accounting Aiyesha Dey has been named a visiting academic scholar with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Dey will begin a one-year appointment with the Office of Corporate Finance in the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis (DERA) later this month.

Visiting scholars within DERA, the SEC’s “think tank,” provide economic guidance and research expertise to a broad range of activities, including rule-making, enforcement actions, marketing oversight and monitoring, and other regulatory initiatives. They are also responsible for applying academic research and empirical methods in support of the SEC’s actions and regulatory programs.

“One of my areas of research involve examining the economic implications of regulation, and working closely with regulators will help me gain a perspective that will likely guide future research and teaching,” says Dey. “This incredible experience will also provide me with a better understanding of the issues my MBA students are facing in their work.”

Dey, who joined the Carlson School in 2010, conducts research in the areas of corporate governance, financial reporting and disclosures, and earnings management. She serves on the Editorial Advisory and Review Board of The Accounting Review, and is an ad hoc reviewer for several leading journals, including The Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, and the Review of Accounting Studies.
