The next time you visit the Carlson School, be sure to check out three new recognition sites honoring alumni of distinction, and those whose contributions have made a lasting impact to the school.
A first-floor Atrium display honors benefactors and philanthropy supporting the school's initiatives involving scholarships, fellowships, and academic priorities. A nearby display honors benefactors who have supported faculty positions by funding endowed chairs and professorships. Photos of all faculty members who hold each of these endowed positions are also included. A third site can be found on the second floor corridor outside of the Executive Education Center. It features names of Carlson School alumni and friends who have earned University awards, honors, honorary degrees, Regents Awards, and other top distinctions. The display also honors individuals who have served as chairs of the Board of Overseers and the Alumni Board.
The bust of Curt Carlson, the namesake of the Carlson School, has been moved to the north wall of the Atrium, next to the honorary wall dedicated to the benefactors who have funded endowed chairs and professorships.
Why three separate sites? The purpose is to honor those who have given back to the school, recognize notable alumni, and show the lifelong relationship between them and their alma mater. "The organization of the recognition around key strategic and academic priorities led to two sites, and the separate placement of alumni recognition just made sense," says Director of Institutional Advancement Sara Fenlason. "Plus we wanted to create a feeling of appreciation throughout the building."
These new recognition sites replace the former Wall of Honor in the Atrium, which was installed when the Carlson School building opened in 1998. "These new sites are designed to provide upgraded clarity and higher visibility, as well as to show our appreciation to the many whose contributions greatly affect the quality and prestige of the Carlson School," says Roberta Collins, director of benefactor relations.
