RICK
NELSON is a
Senior Lecturer in Finance and Director of Undergraduate Finance Programs,
Department of Finance, Carlson School of Management, University of
Minnesota. He joined the Carlson School
of Management faculty in 1997 and has over fifteen years of experience teaching
numerous International, Executive MBA, MBA, Undergraduate and Executive
Education courses in Finance. He has
taught internationally at Wirtschaftsuniversitat
Wien (WU) Vienna,
Austria and the Warsaw School of Economics. He has been a
finalist for Undergraduate Faculty Member of the Year numerous times and has
been named as an Outstanding MBA Faculty Member in the Business Week Guide to
the Best Business Schools.
He received his BSB in 1980, and his MBA
in 1987 from the Carlson School of Management.
Mr. Nelson also has extensive
professional experience. From 1989-1997 he held various senior management
positions with ReliaStar Financial Corporation (now ING). Most recently he was Senior Vice President, reporting
to the Chief Investment Officer with responsibility for developing overall
investment strategies, managing the company’s derivatives portfolios, asset
liability processes and staff. He held
numerous other positions with ReliaStar including responsibility for their
Group Pension business hedging activities.
From 1987-1989 he was Assistant
Treasurer, MTS Systems Corporation, Inc. where he reported to the Chief
Financial Officer with responsibility for short term investments, foreign currency
hedging, insurance and risk management, pension plan administration and
investment evaluation.
Prior to this he was the Treasurer and
General Manager for Lerch Brothers Inc.;
A Commercial Lender with Norwest Bank (now Wells Fargo); and a Surety
Bond Underwriter with the St. Paul Companies (now Travelers).
