The Carlson Funds Enterprise (CFE) is overseen by an advisory board comprised of senior investment professionals in the Twin Cities. The advisory board meets three times per year to review the operations of the CFE.

Darci Doneff, Piper Jaffray

Darci Doneff is currently a managing director in the fixed income services department at Piper Jaffray. Prior to joining Piper Jaffray in 1995, Doneff was a managing director for Citigroup (formerly Smith Barney) for eight years. While at Citi, she served as the manager and head municipal trader and underwriter. At Piper Jaffray, Doneff manages a team of 34 fixed income professionals in the Municipal Trading, Underwriting and Sales Division. Doneff's team focuses on the marketing and distribution of new issue municipal debt throughout the country and in addition actively trades municipal securities both tax exempt and taxable in the secondary market. In 2009 her team successfully placed over 450 new issues totaling in excess of $8 billion par value. Doneff attended North Dakota State University, where she earned a degree in Agricultural Economics.

Matt Dudley (Board Chair), E2P Partners

Matt DudleyMatt is currently the founding partner of E2P Partners. Prior to starting E2P, Matt worked at The Leuthold Group for 12 years, where he focused on sales, marketing and client relationships with their institutional research clients. Matt previously worked as an Associate in Lehman Brothers' Private Client Services in Chicago from 2000 to 2002, where he focused on business development and client service for high net worth individuals and families. Matt received his MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, where he concentrated in Finance and is a 1994 graduate of Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, where he majored in Political Science and earned a commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Reserve through the Naval ROTC.

Marilyn Froelich, Bell State Bank & Trust

Marilyn Froelich Marilyn Froelich is an investment professional with over 30 years of insurance and institutional asset management experience. She is experienced in the critical areas of fixed income investment management, including portfolio management, credit research, risk analysis, strategy, policy development and reporting. Marilyn has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science Degree from North Dakota State University. In addition to being a Chartered Financial Analyst, she is a Chartered Life Underwriter and Fellow, Life Office Management.

James L. Hamalainen, Ameriprise Financial

Jim HamalainenMr. Hamalainen joined Ameriprise Financial in 1991, working as a Financial Analyst. In 1995, he moved to the investment department and during his eight year tenure there worked as a quantitative analyst and a collateralized debt obligation analyst. From 2003-2006, he worked in the Treasury strategy group where he was Vice President of Finance. In 2006, he took a position in the company's asset management division, RiverSource Investments, as VP of Investment Management Analysis. In 2010, he became the corporate Treasurer for Ameriprise, continuing with responsibility for the company's investment portfolios, and adding responsibility for liquidity, capital, and enterprise risk management. He received a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of North Dakota and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Minnesota.

Todd HedtkeTodd has been with Allianz for 12 years, the last four years with Allianz Investment Management LLC . He leads investment activities related to general account investments. Prior to joining Allianz Todd held various finance and investment positions at Cargill, EBF& Associates and American Express. Todd received his Bachelor's degree from Hamline University and his MBA from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. In addition to being a Chartered Financial Analyst, he is a Financial Risk Manager and Fellow of the Life Management Institute.

Phil Hildebrandt, Segall Bryant & Hamill

Phil HildebrandtPhilip Hildebrandt is Chief Executive Officer for Segall Bryant & Hamill, a leading investment management firm located in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to joining SBH, Mr. Hildebrandt was Director of Marketing for CSI Asset Management, an investment subsidiary of The Prudential Investment Corporation. Mr. Hildebrandt has a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the University of Minnesota and an MBA in finance from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Mark has been with Federated for 19 years and currently oversees $4.5 billion of fixed income assets. Prior to joining Federated, he was a portfolio manager at Trustmark Insurance Companies. He received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa in 1985. Mark is a CFA Charterholder, and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Minnesota.

Jon HorickJonathan Horick is the Vice President, Investments at Stevens Foster Financial Advisors. Previously, Jon was a Principal and Portfolio Manager at Akros Capital, LLC. Mr. Horick has a diverse set of institutional investment experiences involving securities analysis for both public and private entities, and an extensive work history in equity financing and fixed-income objectives. He held positions at several investment managers in New York and the Twin Cities, including Millennium Partners, White Pine Capital, Deephaven Capital Management, Dougherty & Company and Sit Investment Associates. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds an inactive Certified Public Accountant certificate. Mr. Horick has a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance from Wartburg College and his MBA in Finance from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management.

Jay Kiedrowski, Humphrey School of Public Affiars - University of Minnesota

Senior Fellow Jay Kiedrowski of the Humphrey InstituteJay Kiedrowski is a senior fellow in the Public and Nonprofit Leadership Center at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He teaches courses on public and nonprofit financial analysis and budgeting, organizational performance and change. Before coming to the University in 2004, Kiedrowski was the executive vice president for Wells Fargo and Company. He was responsible for leading institutional trust, institutional brokerage, and trust operations for the merged Northwest/Wells Fargo organization. Kiedrowski earned a B.S.M.E. in industrial engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Arts from the University's School of Public Affairs. He also earned an Ed.D. from St. Mary's University of Minnesota.

Wan-Chong Kung, Nuveen Asset Management

WanChongKungWan-Chong is the head of the U.S. Interest Rates & Governments Sector Team and a member of the Fixed-Income Strategy Committee at Nuveen Asset Management. As a senior fixed-income portfolio manager, she leads the Inflation Protected Securities, Intermediate Government Bond, and Intermediate Term Bond strategies, as well as related institutional portfolios, and co-manages the Core Bond strategy. Prior to joining the firm in 1993, she was a senior consultant for financial services firms at Cytrol Inc. and Global/Non-Dollar Sector Teams. She received a B.S. in economics from the University of the Philippines and an M.B.A. in information systems management from the University of Minnesota. Wan-Chong holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Minnesota.

David Kuplic, Advantus Capital Management

Dave Kuplic As Executive Vice President of Advantus, David co-leads the investment management of approximately $22 billion of client assets and is the Chief Investment Officer of Securian, Advantus's parent company. David has direct accountability for all of Securian's investments, as well as the asset management of all of Advantus's external insurance clients. David is also President of Advantus Series Fund, an investment company that offers fixed income and equity alternatives through life insurance and annuity products. Since starting in the investment industry in 1984, David has specialized in fixed income investment management.

Mark Simenstad, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans

Mark SimenstadMark Simenstad, serves as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans vice president and head of fixed income funds and separate accounts. In this role, he oversees the investment management of all fixed income mutual funds and separate accounts. He held a variety of positions, including head of fixed income research and portfolio manager, before leaving the organization in 1993. He rejoined the organization in 1999 and assumed his new position in October of 2002. Before rejoining Thrivent Financial, Simenstad was employed by Investment Advisers Inc. as vice president and portfolio manager. He subsequently joined Voyageur Asset Management as chief investment officer. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1981. He earned an MBA from the University of Minnesota in 1983.

Matt ThompsonMatt Thompson is a Partner in the Minneapolis office of Faegre Baker Daniels LLP, one of the country's largest law firms. Matt specializes in the formation, syndication and ongoing compliance requirements of registered and unregistered investment funds and their management organizations, as well as related products and services. Matt also represents institutional investors in their review of prospective investments, and independent directors and trustees of mutual funds. Matt received this B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.

Matt ThompsonKathy joined Thomas, McNerney & Partners from Piper Jaffray, where she was a health care analyst focused on medical technology companies. Her background also includes experience in new product development at Solvay, S.A. Projects at Solvay included the development of vaccines for the prevention of viral infections. Kathy was also a Senior Scientist in molecular biology at the University of Minnesota, where she worked on the development of molecular biology based assays for the detection of infectious agents. Her educational background includes an M.S. degree in Microbiology from the University of Minnesota and an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management, where she was a Robert and Gail Buuck Scholar.

Tom Welch

Tom Welch is the Midwest regional client services manager Wells Capital Management. Prior to joining Wells Capital Management in 2003, Tom served as senior vice president and director of portfolio management for Boatmen's Trust Company of St. Louis and as Midwest director of institutional advisory services for Bank of America Capital Management. Tom received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Southwest Baptist University.
