Sarah Gisser, Enterprise Managing Director
Sarah Gisser is a seasoned business strategist and leader with over 15 years’ experience, focused primarily in the consumer products and retail industries. Her expertise includes development and execution of business unit and enterprise-level growth strategies, structured problem solving, as well as quantitative and qualitative research design.
Sarah is the Professional Director of the Carlson Consulting Enterprise at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. In her role as Director, she is responsible for recruiting students, teaching classes on consulting and skills and problem-solving approaches, coaching teams and developing client relationships.
Prior to leading the Consulting Enterprise in 2012, Sarah worked in Guest Insights at Target Corporation where she led a team to develop strategies for the Merchandising and Marketing Organization. Sarah’s team designed and conducted extensive consumer research and worked with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies that drove double-digit top-line growth in mature categories and significantly elevated consumer perception of the brand.
Prior to joining Target, Sarah served as an Associate Director for the Carlson Consulting Enterprise and the Carlson Brand Enterprise at the Carlson School of Management, providing guidance and direction to student teams on problem-solving, research design, communications and client interaction.
Before her roles at Carlson, Sarah was a consultant at McKinsey & Company in the Minneapolis and Chicago offices, addressing a broad range of strategic and operational issues for her clients. Sarah began her career in brand management at The Procter & Gamble Company, working on household brands such as Crest and Scope.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Miami University and a Masters in Business Administration from the J. L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Art Hill, Academic Enterprise Director
Professor Hill founded the Carlson Consulting Enterprise in 2002 with help from many people both inside and outside the Carlson School. He is the Associate Dean for MBA Programs and John and Nancy Lindahl Professor in the Supply Chain and Operations Department.
He holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Indiana University, an MS in Industrial Administration from Purdue's Krannert School, and a Ph.D. in Management also from Krannert. He has been recognized as an outstanding instructor in the Carlson School of Management in several national publications including Business Week.
He has extensive international experience at the Budapest University of Economic Sciences, State University of Management (Moscow), University of Witwatersrand (South Africa), IMD International (Lausanne, Switzerland), the National University of Singapore, and Renmin University (Beijing). He has consulting for over 100 organizations including 3M, Best Buy, Cargill, Carlson, Ceridian, CH Robinson, Cummins, Dow, General Mills, Goodrich, Home Depot, Honeywell, Land O'Lakes, Medtronic, Nestlé, Target, Thomson Reuters, Toro, U.S. Bank, and Wells Fargo. He was the editor of the Journal of Operations Management, the academic journal in operations management.
His current research is focused on supply chain management and process improvement.
Consulting Enterprise Executive Advisory Board
The Consulting Enterprise has an executive advisory board comprised of local leaders in a variety of industries and functions. They are dedicated to helping connect students with career resources and advice and play an intergal role in students' CCE experience. Board members provide current CCE students with group mentoring and project advice during semi annual meetings.
